Dante was a sixteen year old high school junior who was displaying more than a few alcohol-related issues at school. Consequently, the principal informed him that he had to see Miss Johnson, the school therapist, before he would be allowed to come back to school.

Later that afternoon when Dante went home after school, he had to explain his school expulsion to his parents. His Mom and Dad were “relatively old-style” and informed Dante that getting suspended from school was not a tolerable educational option. They informed Dante that failing to graduate from high school would more likely than not be like a lead weight around his ankles that could probably inhibit his educational achievement for the rest of his adult life. Moreover, Dante’s Mom and Dad were extremely dissatisfied that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his classmates in the second.

They informed Dante that although he may be an adolescent, he needs to realize fairly promptly that drinking is the map to ill health, failure, pain, and financial problems.

It was evident that his parents were in total agreement with Dante’s principal and told Dante that he had better come to the realization that he needs to see Miss Johnson, the school therapist. After his discussion with his Mom and Dad, Dante in the end agreed to see Miss Johnson the next school day. So Dante phoned the school and scheduled an appointment to see Miss Johnson the next day during his third period class.

The Counselor Asks Dante if He Knows Why His Recent Alcohol-Related Activities Made the School Administrators Uneasy

When Dante got to his scheduled appointment with Miss Johnson, she instantly went over all of the alcohol-related issues Dante had gotten into and asked him if he comprehended why his recent alcohol-related behavior was such a cause for concern.

Quite candidly, Dante questioned why the principal informed him that he had to see a school therapist. As he stated to Miss Johnson, why should he see a professional therapist about his drinking situation? In view of the fact that virtually all of his pals drink as much if not more than he does, fundamentally, drinking is no big thing. Stated more directly, if just about everybody is drinking, why is this such a big deal?

Miss Johnson asked Dante when he started to drink alcoholic beverages. He said that some of his older friends introduced him to drinking wine when he was twelve or thirteen years old and getting ready to enter the seventh grade.

Miss Johnson explained to Dante that while his friends may in fact drink as much as he does and that they may be a bad influence on him, the facts are that he is the one who is getting discharged from school due to alcohol-related fighting, delinquency, and absenteeism, not his buddies. In addition, Miss Johnson also highlighted the fact that Dante, and not his pals, is the one who is failing and who is missing one day of school every week because of his alcohol related problems. Finally, Miss Johnson emphasized the fact that due to his drinking circumstances, Dante is getting into a negative cycle of hazardous drinking that can in the end destroy his dreams, hopes, and aspirations.

In a word, Dante’s involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was beginning to thwart his ability to conduct himself like a responsible young man. As conveyed by Miss Johnson, “Just because most of your friends drink wine, beer, hard liquor, or wine coolers does not mean that it is right for you.”

Dante Learns That In the Long Run He Must Be Responsible For Himself In Order to Stay Away From Unhealthy, Damaging, Destructive, and Dangerous Effects In the Foreseeable Future

Miss Johnson explained to Dante that other individuals can indeed influence an individual in an unhealthy manner, but that the individual himself or herself has to sooner or later be responsible for herself or himself in order to avoid unhealthy, damaging, destructive, and dangerous effects in the future.

Luckily, Miss Johnson was extremely well equipped for her conference with Dante. She showed him research studies and reports she had highlighted that listed diverse drinking facts and statistics that targeted most people in general. Then she showed Dante quite a bit of information that applied mainly to adolescents.

For example, Miss Johnson explained the difference between alcohol dependency and alcohol abuse and explained to Dante that people who continue to abuse alcohol regularly become dependent on alcohol.

Miss Johnson also went over the concept of binge drinking which she defined as follows: ingesting four or more drinks in one sitting for females and drinking four or more drinks in one sitting for females.

The Counselor Conveys Numerous Alcohol Addiction and Alcohol Abuse Statistics and Facts

Then Miss Johnson articulated various alcohol facts and the following eight alcohol abuse statistics:

1. As shown in one study, just about 11% of 8th-graders, 22% of 10th-graders, and 27% of 12th-graders stated that they engaged in hazardous drinking.

2. Between 48% and 64% of the people who expire in fires have blood alcohol levels demonstrating inebriation.

3. Children who are drinking alcohol by 7th grade are more probable to manifest academic problems, substance use, and delinquent behavior in both high school and middle school.

4. In the United States, 33% of all suicides, and 25% of all emergency room admissions are alcohol-related.

5. In the United States among drivers between the ages of 15 and 20, fatal crashes involving a single vehicle at night are three times more probable to be alcohol-related than to other deadly crashes.

6. In the United States, more than 40 percent of the individuals who start drinking before the age of 13 will develop alcohol abuse or alcohol addiction at some point in their lives.

7. In the U.S, by the time they are high school seniors, 80% of teens have tried alcohol and 62% have been intoxicated.

8. Treatment for alcoholism has been demonstrated to reduce criminal activity up to 80% among chronic offenders, has decreased their homelessness, increased their rate of employment, and reduced their health care costs.

Dante Gets A Meaningful Jolt of Reality Regarding the Short Term and the Long Term Effects of Teenage Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Dependency

After Miss Johnson articulated the aforementioned alcoholism and alcohol abuse facts and statistics, it was obvious that what Miss Johnson made known to Dante was a realization for him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only made the effort to put in plain words the long term and the short term results of alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency, but she also made the effort to back up what she was saying with alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction facts and statistics that related to everybody in general, and particularly to teens.

Without a doubt, it was almost as if a light went on and Dante without pause grasped why he should not be engaging in hazardous and excessive drinking with or without his pals anymore. Dante thanked Miss Johnson for her concern and for the information she went over.

Miss Johnson then asked Dante how he felt about getting a physical examination and an alcohol appraisal for the alcohol abuse or alcohol dependency rehab he would probably need.

Dante thought about this for a minute and then agreed to get an extensive physical examination and to go through an extensive evaluation of his drinking situation so that he could start an alcohol abuse or alcohol dependency treatment program in a practical time frame.

Dante was a sixteen year old high school junior who was exhibiting a number of alcohol-related difficulties at school. For that reason, the principal informed him that he had to see Miss Johnson, the school psychologist, before he would be allowed to return to class.

Later that afternoon when Dante went home after school, he had to go over his school expulsion with his parents. His Mom and Dad were “fairly conservative” and explained to Dante that getting kicked out of school was not a feasible educational plan of action. They informed Dante that failing to graduate from high school would probably be like a lead weight around his legs that may inhibit his educational aspirations for the rest of his life. What is more, Dante’s Mom and Dad were very troubled that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his pals in the second.

They told Dante that although he may be a teenager, he needs to realize fairly swiftly that drinking is the pathway to ill health, financial problems, failure, and pain.

It was apparent that his Mother and Father were 100% in agreement with Dante’s principal and informed Dante that he had better make up his mind to see Miss Johnson, the school counselor. After his conversation with his Mother and Father, Dante in due course agreed to see Miss Johnson the next day. So Dante called the school and scheduled an appointment to see Miss Johnson the next morning.

The Psychologist Asks Dante if He Understands Why His Recent Alcohol-Related Activities Were Such a Cause For Concern By the School Administrators

When Dante arrived at his scheduled appointment with Miss Johnson, she without pause looked at all of the alcohol-related issues Dante had experienced and asked him if he understood why his recent alcohol-related behavior caused quite a bit of concern by the school administrators.

Quite frankly, Dante was unsure why the principal explained to him that he had to see a school therapist. As he expressed to Miss Johnson, why should he see a professional therapist about his drinking behavior? Since almost all of his friends drink the same amount that he does, in essence, drinking shouldn’t be such a big thing. Stated more directly, if nearly everybody is drinking, why is this such a major problem?

Miss Johnson asked Dante when he started to drink. He said that some of his older friends introduced him to drinking hard liquor when he was twelve or thirteen years old and between the sixth and seventh grades.

Miss Johnson informed Dante that while his friends may indeed drink more than he does and that they may be an unhealthy influence on him, the facts are that he is the one who is getting suspended from school due to alcohol-related delinquency, absenteeism, and fighting, not his buddies. Not only this but Miss Johnson also underlined the fact that Dante, and not his pals, is the one who is failing and who is missing at least one day of class every week because of his alcohol related issues. Finally, Miss Johnson underscored the fact that due to his drinking activities, Dante is getting into a negative cycle of hazardous drinking that can ultimately ruin his life.

In short, Dante’s involvement with teenage alcohol abuse was beginning to short-circuit his ability to conduct himself like a responsible young man. As pronounced by Miss Johnson, “Just because most of your friends drink beer, hard liquor, wine, or wine coolers does not mean that it is the best option for you.”

Dante Learns That Ultimately He Must Be Accountable For Himself In Order to Avert Dangerous, Damaging, Destructive, and Unhealthy Circumstances In the Foreseeable Future

Miss Johnson explained to Dante that others can undeniably influence a person in an unhealthy manner, but that the person himself or herself has to ultimately claim responsibility for herself or himself in order to keep away from unhealthy, damaging, dangerous, and destructive effects in the future.

Luckily, Miss Johnson was extremely well prepared for her appointment with Dante. She showed him reports and research studies she had underlined that outlined diverse drinking facts and statistics that targeted most people in general. Then she showed Dante quite a lot of figures and reports that applied principally to underage drinkers.

For instance, Miss Johnson underscored the difference between alcohol abuse and alcoholism and informed Dante that drinkers who continue to drink excessively regularly become addicted to alcohol.

Miss Johnson also explained the concept of binge drinking that she defined as follows: consuming four or more drinks in one sitting for females and drinking five or more drinks in one sitting for males.

The Therapist Verbalizes Numerous Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism Statistics and Facts

Then Miss Johnson presented various alcohol facts and the following eight alcohol abuse statistics:

1. As demonstrated in one study, around 11% of 8th-graders, 22% of 10th-graders, and 27% of 12th-graders articulated that they engaged in binge drinking.

2. Between 48% and 64% of the individuals who die in fires have blood alcohol levels indicating inebriation.

3. Pre-teens who are drinking alcohol by 7th grade are more likely to report academic problems, substance use, and delinquent behavior in both middle school and high school.

4. In the United States, 33% of all suicides, and 25% of all emergency room admissions are related to alcohol.

5. In the U.S. among drivers between the ages of 15 and 20, deadly accidents involving a single vehicle at night are three times more likely to be alcohol-related than to other deadly crashes.

6. In the United States, more than 40 percent of the people who begin drinking before the age of 13 will develop alcohol abuse or alcohol addiction at some time in their lives.

7. In the U.S, by the time they are high school seniors, 80% of teens have drank alcohol and 62% have been inebriated.

8. Treatment for alcohol dependency has been demonstrated to decrease criminal activity up to 80% among chronic offenders, has reduced their health care costs, decreased their homelessness, and increased their rate of employment.

Dante Gets A Much Needed Jolt of Reality Concerning the Short Term and the Long Term Consequences of Teenage Alcohol Addiction and Alcohol Abuse

After Miss Johnson listed the aforementioned alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency facts and statistics, it was obvious that what Miss Johnson taught Dante was a real source of discovery for him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only made the effort to articulate the short term and the long term consequences of alcoholism and alcohol abuse, but she also made the effort to back up what she was saying with alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency statistics and facts that related to everyone, and mainly to teenagers.

Certainly, it was almost as if a light went on and Dante at once grasped why he should not be engaging in abusive and excessive drinking with or without his classmates any longer. Dante thanked Miss Johnson for her concern and for the information she discussed.

Miss Johnson then asked Dante how he felt about getting a physical exam and an alcohol assessment for the alcohol abuse or alcoholism rehab he would probably need.

Dante thought about this for a minute and then agreed to get a complete physical and to go through a comprehensive appraisal of his drinking behavior so that he could start an alcohol abuse or alcoholism rehab program promptly.

How do you identify the fact that you have a problem with your drinking? When is it obvious that you are involving yourself in abusive drinking?

If you have ineffectively attempted to stop drinking or if you have given your word to yourself that your drinking days are behind you and then you recognized that you were drinking in an excessive manner just a few days later, the odds are extremely good that you have drinking problems. The fundamental idea is that if you have made an effort to quit drinking and cannot complete the task, then your drinking is controlling you, rather than the other way around.

In much the same way, if it takes increasingly more amounts of alcohol to get the same “high,” you probably need to realize that you have a drinking problem.

You may be telling yourself that the justification for your drinking is so that you can lessen your nervousness or get rid of the agony that you feel. In much the same way, you may be trying to steer clear of an injurious circumstance and may be looking for something better, more helpful, or less mournful.

As you keep on drinking, nonetheless, you will realize that drinking does not bring about the same high and you will also realize that drinking doesn’t help eradicate whatever elicited your problem in the first place.

As you continue to drink in an abusive way, sadly, you may become addicted to alcohol and, as a consequence, you may add another pivotal issue to cope with rather than learning about more successful and healthy ways of managing your alcohol-related problems.

An Alcohol Evaluation is Probably Warranted

If you have figured out that you have a drinking problem, perchance the most positive thing you can do for yourself is to call your physician or healthcare practitioner and schedule an appointment for a thorough physical and for a review of your drinking circumstances.

If you sincerely feel that you have a critical drinking problem, it may be a good idea to get prepared to find out that you need to get alcohol treatment.

At this point in time, what are your alternatives? You can definitely decide against seeing your physician and persist with your pattern of irresponsible drinking.

It actually doesn’t take a wiz kid, then again, to have a handle on the fact that long-term, hazardous drinking, if left untreated, will worsen over time and more likely than not result an early death. Consequently, your most positive alternative is to face your drinking circumstance and obtain the alcohol rehabilitation you need.

The Facade of the Functioning Alcohol Addicted Individual

It is ironic to note the fact that numerous alcohol addicted individuals lead busy and active lives and have jobs, vehicles, pets, families, houses, and any number of material possessions similar to individuals who are not alcohol dependent.

Many of these “functional” alcoholics may have never been cited for a DWI and may have been fortunate enough to avoid all alcohol induced legal problems. In spite of this fortunate situation, to the contrary, these alcoholics need to drink in order to live on a regular basis while sustaining their facade as they associate with the outside world.

Ask anyone who has seen them when they are bingeing or in a drunken stupor or ask a family member about the problem drinker’s alcohol dependency, on the other hand, and they will be quick to maintain the validity of the drinker’s situation and the details about the alcohol dependent individual’s drinking circumstances and about his or her alcohol induced difficulties.

Why Do Alcohol Dependent Individuals Fail to Address Their Drinking Difficulties?

As alcohol dependency research and statistics on alcohol abuse have underscored, no matter how clear the alcohol generated predicaments seem to those who interact with the alcohol addicted person, alcoholic people often deny that drinking is the root of their alcohol-related problems. Not only this, but alcohol dependent individuals characteristically blame their alcohol induced predicaments on other people or upon other situations that surround them rather than seeing their part in the difficulty.

The origin of the problem is that alcoholism is a disease of the brain. Once the individual has become an alcoholic, he or she usually resorts to denial, manipulation, and deceit as a way of dealing with the fact that his or her drinking is out of control. And to make things more difficult, the experience of alcohol withdrawal symptoms commonly circumvents the alcohol dependent individual’s rare attempts to suddenly refrain from drinking. As depressing as the alcohol dependent person’s life is, to the contrary, the positive news is that competent assistance is generally accessible – if the alcohol dependent person reaches out and gets alcoholism therapy.

Summary

Coming to grips with the fact that drinking is eliciting problems in your daily functioning is perhaps the most straightforward way to determine if you have a drinking problem. Stated another way, if your drinking is eliciting problems with your health, with your employment, in your relationships, with your finances, at school, or with the legal system, then you have a drinking problem that needs to be dealt with.

If you have a drinking problem, moreover, this means that you are involving yourself in irresponsible drinking.

While some people may be able to pinpoint their “alcohol signs,” pinpoint their problems, and significantly diminish the amount and frequency of their drinking, others, then again, need to deal with their drinking problems by getting professional alcohol rehabilitation. Furthermore, due to their penchant to deny the facts and alter the truth, alcohol addicted people unquestionably require quality alcoholism rehab for their abusive drinking.

Dante was a sixteen year old high school sophomore who was exhibiting quite a few alcohol-related problems at school. For that reason, the principal told him that he had to see Miss Johnson, the school therapist, before he would be allowed to come back to school.

Later that afternoon when Dante went home after school, he had to clarify his school discharge to his Mom and Dad. His parents were “old school” and explained to Dante that getting thrown out of school was not a viable educational game plan. They informed Dante that failing to graduate from high school would more likely than not be like a lead weight around his feet that may impede his educational attainment for the remainder of his adult life. Furthermore, Dante’s Mother and Father were quite letdown that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his classmates in the second.

His parents told Dante that although he may be a teenager, he has to understand without much delay that drinking is the pathway to failure, financial problems, pain, and ill health.

It was plain to see that his Mother and Father were in total accord with Dante’s principal and told Dante that he needs to see Miss Johnson, the school therapist. After his talk with his Mother and Father, Dante in due course agreed to see Miss Johnson the next day. So Dante phoned the school and scheduled an appointment to see Miss Johnson the next morning.

The Psychologist Asks Dante if He Knows Why His Recent Alcohol-Related Activities Made the School Administrators Uneasy

When Dante got to his scheduled appointment with Miss Johnson, she instantly went over all of the alcohol-related difficulties Dante had gotten into and asked him if he knew why his recent alcohol-related behavior caused quite a bit of anxiety by the school administrators.

Quite candidly, Dante was not sure why the principal informed him that he had to see a school psychologist. As he stated to Miss Johnson, why should he see a professional psychologist about his drinking activities? Due to the fact that almost all of his peers drink as much if not more than he does, in essence, drinking shouldn’t be such a big issue. Stated more directly, if nearly everybody is drinking, why is this such a major problem?

Miss Johnson asked Dante when he started to drink. He said that some of his older classmates introduced him to drinking wine coolers when he was twelve or thirteen years old and getting ready to enter the seventh grade.

Miss Johnson explained to Dante that while his classmates may indeed drink more than he does and that they may be a bad influence on him, the facts are that he is the one who is getting kicked out of school due to alcohol-related delinquency, absenteeism, and fighting, not his buddies. Furthermore, Miss Johnson also emphasized the fact that Dante, and not his classmates, is the one who is failing and who is missing one day of school per week due to his alcohol related issues. Lastly, Miss Johnson highlighted the fact that because of his drinking situation, Dante is getting into a destructive cycle of hazardous drinking that can sooner or later destroy his life.

In short, Dante’s involvement with youth alcohol abuse was beginning to foil his ability to conduct himself like an accountable young man. As stated by Miss Johnson, “Just because most of your buddies drink beer, hard liquor, wine coolers, or wine does not mean that it is the healthiest thing for you.”

Dante Learns That In the End He Must Be Accountable For Himself In Order to Avoid Damaging, Destructive, Unhealthy, and Dangerous Effects In the Future

Miss Johnson told Dante that others can definitely influence an individual in an unhealthy manner, but that the individual himself or herself has to in the long run be responsible for himself or herself in order to prevent destructive, damaging, unhealthy, and dangerous effects in the foreseeable future.

Fortunately, Miss Johnson was very well prepared for her discussion with Dante. She showed him research studies and reports she had highlighted that listed diverse drinking facts and statistics that targeted most people in general. Then she showed Dante quite a bit of information that applied especially to teenagers.

As an illustration, Miss Johnson stressed the difference between alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency and informed Dante that individuals who continue to drink in a hazardous manner often become dependent on alcohol.

Miss Johnson also discussed the concept of binge drinking which she defined as follows: consuming four or more drinks in one sitting for females and drinking five or more drinks in one sitting for males.

The Therapist Verbalizes Several Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Dependency Facts and Statistics

Then Miss Johnson verbalized various alcohol facts and the following eight alcohol abuse statistics:

1. Alcoholism and alcohol abuse cost the U.S. an estimated 0 billion in 2005. This dollar amount was more than the cost linked to cancer (6 billion) or with obesity (3 billion.

2. More than one-half of American adults have a close family member or relative that has or has had alcohol addiction.

3. More than 75% of female victims of nonfatal, domestic violence claimed that their assailant had been using drugs or drinking.

4. In the U.S. on a yearly basis, more than 33% of pedestrians killed by autos were legally intoxicated.

5. One national study discovered that students are less likely to use alcohol if they are socially accepted by people at school and believe that teachers treat students in a fair manner.

6. Research reveals that teens who use alcohol may remember ten percent less of what they have learned than young people who don’t drink.

7. Around ten to twenty percent of the individuals who drink abusively eventually develop cirrhosis of the liver (i.e., a scarring of the liver that can be fatal).

8. Up to 40% of the U.S. industrial deaths and forty-seven percent of industrial injuries are linked to alcohol dependency or alcohol abuse.

Dante Receives A Meaningful Primer on the Facts Regarding the Short Term and the Long Term Outcomes of Adolescent Alcohol Addiction and Alcohol Abuse

After Miss Johnson verbalized the aforementioned alcoholism and alcohol abuse facts and statistics, it was apparent that what Miss Johnson revealed to Dante was a real jolt to him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only made the effort to articulate the long term and the short term outcomes of alcoholism and alcohol abuse, but she also made the effort to authenticate what she was saying with alcohol abuse and alcoholism facts and statistics that related to people in general, and particularly to underage drinkers.

Without a doubt, it was almost as if a light went on and Dante instantaneously grasped why he should not be engaging in abusive and hazardous drinking with or without his peers any longer. Dante thanked Miss Johnson for her concern and for the information she discussed.

Miss Johnson then asked Dante how he felt about getting a physical exam and an alcohol evaluation for the alcohol abuse or alcohol addiction rehabilitation he would probably need.

Dante thought about this for a minute and then agreed to get a thorough physical examination and to go through an extensive appraisal of his drinking behavior so that he could start an alcohol rehab program as reasonable as possible.

How do you recognize that you have a drinking problem? When is it obvious that you are engaging in abusive drinking?

If you have unproductively struggled to stop drinking or if you have given your word to yourself that your drinking days are over and then you realized that you were drinking abusively just a few days later, the odds are exceptionally good that you have drinking problems. The major point of emphasis is that if you have attempted to stop drinking and cannot bring this about, then your drinking is controlling you, rather than the other way around.

In much the same way, if it takes greater amounts of alcohol to get the same “high,” you probably need to realize that you have a drinking problem.

You may be telling yourself that the reasoning for your drinking is so that you can reduce your anxiety or get rid of the pain that you feel. Similarly, you may be trying to steer clear of an unsafe situation and may be looking for something more beneficial, more positive, or less mournful.

As you keep on drinking, nevertheless, you will realize that drinking does not result in the same high and you will also realize that drinking doesn’t help eradicate whatever produced your sorrow in the first place.

As you continue to drink irresponsibly, sadly, you may become addicted to alcohol and, as a consequence, you may add another important predicament to deal with rather than discovering more productive and wholesome ways of managing your alcohol produced difficulties.

The Necessity for an Alcohol Evaluation

If you have determined that you have a problem with your drinking, conceivably the most expedient thing you can do for yourself is to call your doctor or healthcare practitioner and schedule an appointment for a physical and for an appraisal of your drinking circumstances.

If you actually feel that you have a dangerous drinking problem, it might be a good idea to get prepared to find out that you need to get alcohol counseling.

At this point in your life, what are your options? You can surely refuse to see your health care professional and persist with your pattern of excessive drinking.

It definitely doesn’t take a nuclear physicist, nonetheless, to understand that repeated, out-of-control drinking, if left untreated, will worsen over time and quite probably set in motion an early death. Consequently, your most positive alternative is to face up to your drinking situation and obtain the alcohol therapy you need.

The Pretense of the Functioning Alcohol Dependent Person

It is almost counter intuitive to note the fact that many alcohol addicted individuals lead busy and active lives and have families, jobs, houses, vehicles, pets, and any number of material possessions similar to people who are not addicted to alcohol.

Many of these “functional” alcohol dependent individuals may have never been arrested for drunk driving and may have been fortunate enough to avoid all alcohol generated legal difficulties. Despite this fortunate circumstance, conversely, these alcohol dependent individuals need to drink in order to live on a day to day basis while maintaining their facade as they associate with the outside world.

Ask anyone who has seen them when they are engaging in one of their drinking binges or in a drunken stupor or ask a family member about the problem drinker’s alcohol addiction, conversely, and they will be quick to affirm the truth of the drinker’s situation and the facts about the alcoholic’s drinking predicament and about his or her alcohol induced predicaments.

Why Do Alcohol Dependent People Fail to Deal With Their Drinking Problems?

As alcoholism research and statistics on alcohol abuse have accentualted, no matter how noticeable the alcohol induced difficulties seem to those who interact with the alcohol dependent person, alcohol dependent individuals typically deny that drinking is the origin of their alcohol generated issues. Not only this, but alcohol addicted individuals often blame their alcohol-related difficulties on other individuals or upon other circumstances around them rather than seeing their part in the issue.

The root of the predicament is that alcohol dependency is a disease of the brain. Once the drinker has become dependent on alcohol, he or she usually resorts to denial, manipulation, and deceit as a way of coping with the fact that his or her drinking is out of control. And to make things more complex, the experience of alcohol withdrawal symptoms typically thwarts the alcohol dependent person’s rare attempts to abruptly quit drinking. As grim as the alcohol addicted individual’s life is, conversely, the positive news is that professional help is extensively available – if the alcohol dependent individual reaches out and seeks alcohol therapy.

Conclusion

Acknowledging the fact that drinking is leading to difficulties in your day to day functioning is probably the most trouble-free way to find out if you have a drinking problem. Stated another way, if your drinking is leading to issues with your health, with your employment, in your relationships, with your finances, at school, or with the law, then you have a drinking problem that needs to be resolved.

If you have a problem with your drinking, furthermore, this means that you are involving yourself in abusive drinking.

While some drinkers may be able to identify their “alcohol signs,” pinpoint their problems, and greatly diminish the amount and frequency of their drinking, others, nonetheless, need to manage their drinking problems by getting quality alcohol rehab. Moreover, due to their tendency to deny the facts and warp the truth, alcoholics without a doubt require quality alcohol treatment for their excessive drinking.

How do you know that you have a drinking problem? When is it clear that you are involving yourself in alcohol abuse?

If you have unsuccessfully struggled to stop drinking or if you sworn to yourself that your drinking days are gone and then you recognized that you were drinking in a hazardous manner just a few days later, chances are especially good that you have drinking problems. The major point of emphasis is that if you have attempted to terminate your drinking and cannot bring this about, then your drinking is controlling you, instead of the other way around.

In much the same way, if it takes increasingly more amounts of alcohol to get the same “high,” more likely than not you need to realize that you have a drinking problem.

You may be telling yourself that the justification for your drinking is so that you can reduce your nervousness or get rid of the sorrow that you feel. In a similar manner, you may be trying to steer clear of a negative situation and may be looking for something more beneficial, more favorable, or less sorrowful.

As you maintain your drinking, nonetheless, you will understand that drinking does not bring forth the same high and you will also grasp the fact that drinking doesn’t help eradicate whatever elicited your discomfort in the first place.

As you continue to drink, unfortunately, you may become alcohol dependent and, as a consequence, you may add another major difficulty to manage rather than finding out about more productive and wholesome ways of dealing with your alcohol induced difficulties.

An Alcohol Assessment is Probably Warranted

If you have figured out that you have a drinking problem, maybe the most beneficial thing you can do for yourself is to call your medical doctor or healthcare professional and schedule an appointment for a physical and for a review of your drinking circumstances.

If you really think that you have a critical problem with your drinking, it may be a good idea to get prepared to find out that you need to get alcohol reahbilitation.

At this point in time, what are your options? You can surely say no and refuse to see your medical doctor and persist with your pattern of irresponsible drinking.

It truly doesn’t take a rocket scientist, to the contrary, to have a handle on the fact that continuous, hazardous drinking, if left untreated, will get worse over time and in all probability lead to an early death. Therefore, your best option is to face your drinking problem and obtain the alcohol therapy you require.

The Pretext of the Functioning Alcoholic

It is somewhat paradoxical to note the fact that several alcohol dependent people lead busy and active lives and have families, jobs, houses, vehicles, pets, and any number of material possessions just like people who are not alcohol dependent.

Many of these “functional” alcohol dependent people may have never been arrested for a DUI and may have been lucky enough to avoid all alcohol induced legal problems. In spite of this fortunate circumstance, nevertheless, these alcohol dependent individuals need to drink in order to live on a day by day basis while upholding their facade as they interact with people outside their family.

Ask anyone who has seen them when they are bingeing or in a drunken stupor or ask a family member about the problem drinker’s alcoholism, on the other hand, and they will be quick to affirm the validity of the drinker’s situation and the whole story about the alcohol addicted individual’s drinking predicament and about his or her alcohol induced issues.

Why Do Alcohol Dependent People Fail to Perceive Their Drinking Problems?

As alcohol addiction research and statistics on alcohol abuse have stressed, no matter how clear the alcohol-related predicaments seem to those who interact with the alcohol dependent individual, alcohol addicted individuals typically deny that drinking is the cause of their alcohol generated difficulties. Not only this, but alcohol addicted people commonly blame their alcohol-related problems on other individuals or upon other situations that surround them rather than seeing their part in the difficulty.

The origin of the difficulty is that alcohol addiction is a disease of the brain. Once the alcohol abuser has become an alcoholic, he or she regularly resorts to denial, manipulation, and deceit as a way of coping with the fact that his or her drinking is out of control. And to make things more problematic, the experience of alcohol withdrawal symptoms frequently circumvents the alcoholic’s rare attempts to suddenly refrain from drinking. As dreary as the alcohol addicted individual’s life is, nonetheless, the good news is that quality help is extensively accessible – if the alcohol dependent person reaches out and gets alcohol counseling.

Summary

Coming to grips with the fact that drinking is triggering difficulties in your daily functioning is perchance the most trouble-free way to find out if you have a problem with your drinking. Stated another way, if your drinking is leading to problems with your health, with your employment, in your relationships, with your finances, at school, or with the law, then you have a drinking problem that needs to be resolved.

If you have a problem with your drinking, what is more, this means that you are involving yourself in hazardous drinking.

While some individuals may be able to pinpoint their “alcohol signs,” pinpoint their difficulties, and significantly reduce the quantity and rate of their drinking, others, to the contrary, need to manage their drinking problems by getting quality alcohol rehabilitation. What is more, due to their propensity to deny the facts and warp the truth, alcohol dependent people certainly require competent alcoholism rehab for their irresponsible drinking.

You may be telling yourself that the reasoning for your drinking is so that you can reduce your apprehension or get rid of the pain that you feel. Likewise, you may be trying to steer clear of a negative situation and may be looking for something more beneficial, more constructive, or less regretful.

As you keep on drinking, nonetheless, you will comprehend that drinking does not elicit the same high and you will also understand that drinking doesn’t help eliminate whatever produced your pain in the first place.

As you continue to drink in a hazardous manner, sadly, you may become an alcoholic and, as a consequence, you may add another fundamental issue to cope with rather than finding more efficient and healthy ways of coping with your alcohol induced problems.

An Alcohol Appraisal is Probably Required

If you have figured out that you have a drinking problem, maybe the most practical thing you can do for yourself is to call your medical doctor or healthcare provider and arrange for an appointment for a complete physical and for an evaluation of your drinking behavior.

It really doesn’t take a wiz kid, conversely, to comprehend that continuous, heavy drinking, if left untreated, will get worse over time and more likely than not result an early death. For that reason, your most practical option is to face up to your drinking circumstance and get the alcohol treatment you need.

It is almost counter intuitive to note the fact that several alcohol addicted individuals lead busy and active lives and have houses, pets, families, vehicles, jobs, and any number of material possessions just like people who are not alcohol dependent.

Many of these “functional” alcohol dependent individuals may have never been cited for a DWI and may have been lucky enough to avoid all alcohol induced legal difficulties. Despite this fortunate situation, on the other hand, these alcohol addicted individuals need to drink in order to operate on a regular basis while preserving their facade as they interact with the outside world.

Ask anyone who has seen them when they are engaging in one of their drinking binges or in a drunken stupor or ask a family member about the problem drinker’s alcohol dependency, nonetheless, and they will be quick to state the reality of the drinker’s situation and the essentials about the alcohol dependent individual’s drinking condition and about his or her alcohol-related predicaments.

Why Do Alcohol Addicted People Fail to Perceive Their Drinking Problems?

As alcohol addiction research and statistics on alcohol abuse have stressed, no matter how obvious the alcohol generated predicaments seem to those who interact with the alcohol addicted person, alcoholic individuals frequently deny that drinking is the origin of their alcohol generated issues. Not only this, but alcohol dependent individuals frequently blame their alcohol-related problems on other people or upon other circumstances around them rather than seeing their part in the issue.

The source of the issue is that alcohol addiction is a disease of the brain. Once the problem drinker has become alcohol dependent, he or she characteristically resorts to denial, manipulation, and lying as a way of dealing with the fact that his or her drinking is out of control. And to make things more complex, the experience of alcohol withdrawal symptoms frequently counteracts the alcohol dependent individual’s rare attempts to suddenly quit drinking. As cheerless as the alcoholic’s existence is, conversely, the good news is that professional help is commonly available – if the alcohol addicted person reaches out and gets alcohol treatment.

Summary

Coming to grips with the fact that drinking is causing difficulties in your day to day functioning is perhaps the most straightforward way to determine if you have a problem with your drinking. Stated more precisely, if your drinking is triggering issues with your health, with your employment, in your relationships, with your finances, at school, or with the legal system, then you have a drinking problem that needs to be resolved.

If you have a drinking problem, what is more, this means that you are getting involved with abusive drinking.

While some drinkers may be able to identify their “alcohol signs,” pinpoint their problems, and greatly reduce the amount and frequency of their drinking, other individuals, nonetheless, need to manage their drinking difficulties by getting quality alcohol rehabilitation. Furthermore, due to their penchant to deny the facts and twist the truth, alcoholics unquestionably require quality alcoholism rehabilitation for their irresponsible drinking.

Teresa was a thirty-six-year-old insurance agent who realized that she had some problems with her drinking. For instance, within the past four months she has felt the need to have three or four drinks before going to work, three months ago she failed to pass a random blood alcohol test at work, seven weeks ago she got pulled over by the state highway patrol for a DUI, and last but not least, for around six months she has started to forget what she says and does when she goes out drinking with her buddies.

Like huge numbers of other people, Teresa’s involvement with alcohol began gradually and remained at this level of involvement for quite a long time because once in a “blue moon” she engaged in sporadic social drinking. In truth, for almost six months, every time she went out to drink, she made sure to drink moderately. Something about her drinking, nonetheless, seemed to fundamentally change when she got divorced.

In Order To Endure the Breakup of Her Husband With Less Grief, Teresa Made Up Her Mind That She Will Begin Associating More Frequently With Some of Her Pals Who Love to Party

Teresa got exceedingly down in the dumps about the loss of her husband, and as a way to quit obsessing about her depressing emotions she made up her mind to start associating more repeatedly with some of her buddies who love to party.

Quite sincerely, Teresa reasoned that having fun just about every day by partying and drinking with her pals would help her get beyond the divorce of her husband with less distress.

Teresa’s Drinking Increases Considerably the More Frequently She Goes to Private Parties, Dinner Dates, Family Get-Togethers, Sporting Events, and Happy Hours With Her Buddies

It didn’t take very long, nonetheless, before her drinking escalated to a significant degree the more routinely she went to and drank at family get-togethers, happy hours, sporting events, dinner dates, and private parties with her pals. In addition, the fact that her drinking friends were all considerably younger than she was and therefore able to drink and party more intensely was one of the reasons why she didn’t focus more on her increased drinking. To be brief, she was partying just like everyone else in her group of pals without giving too much consideration about the unhealthy consequences of her abusive drinking.

Yet in the recesses of her mind she knew that she most probably required alcohol rehab but steered clear of the thought as much as humanly possible.

Teresa Gets a Physical Exam, Acknowledges Her Irresponsible to Her Physician, and Discloses the Truth About Her Sadness

One late afternoon during her six-month physical examination, her healthcare professional asked her if she drank alcohol. Not wanting to tell falsehoods to her physician, Teresa ”came clean” and stated that she regularly drinks more than she should. In truth, she stated that she frequently drinks in an excessive and abusive manner. Then Teresa informed her doctor about her general state of despair. More specifically, she mentioned that ruined relationships more often than not initiated a negative progression of events characterized by increased drinking which further resulted in more discouraging feelings that, in turn, resulted in more drinking. And this is specifically what happened when her husband and she got divorced eleven months ago.

When her doctor heard this, he told Teresa that according to various alcoholism facts and statistics on alcoholism he was exploring, alcoholism and depression commonly happen in the same individual. He then told Teresa that some of the alcohol statistics, research investigations, and facts he has been looking into also highlight the fact that people who drink in a hazardous and excessive manner and who also suffer from depression need to get treatment for both medical situations.

Teresa’s Doctor Makes an Appointment for a Psychological Evaluation and For an Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Dependency Appraisal

Teresa’s physician then said the following: “I am not trying to make a sudden judgment, but with your medical situation we may be working with two separate problems. As a result, I think we need to make an appointment for you to get an alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency evaluation from my partner, Dr.
Glosik, who is a drug and alcohol addiction specialist. Whether your drinking situation is more related to alcohol abuse or alcoholism is not clear, but I think that further evaluation is defensible. Then I feel we probably should make an appointment for you to get a psychological examination from another one of my partners, Dr. Schmidt, who is a psychologist. I want to get a better understanding about your melancholy and see how much your depression and drinking are interrelated.” Teresa displayed her endorsement of her healthcare practitioner’s treatment approach and thanked him for his assistance and concern. Now all she had to do was to try to reduce her drinking and wait for her appointments.

Dante was a sixteen year old high school junior who was exhibiting several alcohol-related difficulties at school. For that reason, the principal informed him that he had to see Miss Johnson, the school counselor, before he would be permitted to return to class.

Later that day when Dante went home after school, he had to go over his school situation with his Mom and Dad. His Mother and Father were “fairly old-fashioned” and informed Dante that getting suspended from school was not an acceptable educational game plan. They informed Dante that failing to graduate from high school would probably be like a lead weight around his legs that might impair his educational achievement for the remainder of his life. What is more, Dante’s parents were extremely dismayed that he was drinking in the first place and drinking with his pals in the second.

They told Dante that although he may be a teen, he needs to realize fairly rapidly that drinking is the map to financial problems, failure, pain, and ill health.

It was obvious that his Mother and Father were absolutely in agreement with Dante’s principal and told Dante that he had better come to the realization that he needs to see Miss Johnson, the school counselor. After his chat with his Mother and Father, Dante in the end agreed to see Miss Johnson the next school day. So Dante phoned the school and scheduled an appointment to see Miss Johnson the next day during his first period class.

The Counselor Asks Dante if He Understands Why His Recent Alcohol-Related Behavior Was Such a Cause For Concern By the School Administrators

When Dante went to see Miss Johnson, she immediately analyzed all of the alcohol-related difficulties Dante had gotten into and asked him if he knew why his recent alcohol-related activities caused quite a bit of concern by the school administrators.

Quite frankly, Dante was unsure why the principal told him he had to see a school therapist. As he expressed to Miss Johnson, why should he see a professional counselor about his drinking activities? Due to the fact that nearly all of his pals drink as much if not more than he does, fundamentally, drinking shouldn’t be such a big issue. Stated more directly, if almost everyone is drinking, why is this such a major issue?

Miss Johnson asked Dante when he started to drink. He said that some of his older friends introduced him to drinking hard liquor when he was twelve or thirteen years old and getting ready to enter junior high school.

Miss Johnson explained to Dante that while his buddies may indeed drink as much as he does and that they may be a bad influence on him, the facts are that he is the one who is getting kicked out of school due to alcohol-related delinquency, absenteeism, and fighting, not his peers. In addition, Miss Johnson also stressed the fact that Dante, and not his buddies, is the one who is failing and who is missing at least one day of school per week because of his alcohol related issues. Finally, Miss Johnson underscored the fact that because of his drinking activities, Dante is getting into a harmful cycle of alcohol abuse that can in the end ruin his dreams, hopes, and aspirations.

In short, Dante’s involvement with youth alcohol abuse was beginning to impede his ability to behave like a responsible young man. As conveyed by Miss Johnson, “Just because most of your classmates drink wine, beer, wine coolers, or hard liquor does not mean that it is the healthiest thing for you.”

Dante Learns That In Due Course He Must Take Responsibility For Himself In Order to Avert Destructive, Unhealthy, Damaging, and Dangerous Circumstances In the Foreseeable Future

Miss Johnson informed Dante that others can unquestionably influence a person in a negative way, but that the individual herself or himself has to in due course be accountable for himself or herself in order to prevent dangerous, damaging, unhealthy, and destructive circumstances in the future.

Fortunately, Miss Johnson was very organized for her scheduled meeting with Dante. She showed him reports and research studies she had underlined that summarized different drinking statistics and facts that applied to most people in general. Then she showed Dante a lot of figures and reports that applied chiefly to teens.

For example, Miss Johnson explained the difference between alcohol abuse and alcohol dependency and told Dante that drinkers who continue to drink in an excessive manner habitually become alcohol dependent.

Miss Johnson also articulated the concept of binge drinking which she defined as follows: drinking five or more drinks in one sitting for males and consuming four or more drinks in one sitting for females.

The Therapist Verbalizes Several Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Dependency Facts and Statistics

Then Miss Johnson stated various alcohol facts and the following eight alcohol abuse statistics:

1. The 25.9% of teen drinkers in the U.S. who are alcoholic and alcohol abusers drink 47.3% of the alcohol that is consumed by all teenage drinkers.

2. Fifty percent of United States homicides are alcohol related.

3. In 2002, U.S. alcoholism statistics and facts revealed that 2.6 million binge drinkers were between the ages of 12 and 17.

4. It is estimated that more than 3 million teenagers in the United States between the ages of 14 to 17 are alcohol abusers or dependent on alcohol.

5. In the United States, more than 40 percent of those who begin drinking at the age 14 or younger become alcohol dependent.

6. Very few of the more than 18 million U.S. alcohol abusers receive the alcohol treatment they require.

7. Teenage drinking costs Americans nearly billion annually. If each congressional district shared this cost equally, the amount would total more than 0 million per district.

8. Alcohol-related difficulties are disproportionately found among both juvenile and adult criminal offenders.

Dante Receives A Much Needed Jolt of Reality About the Short Term and the Long Term Outcomes of Adolescent Alcohol Addiction and Alcohol Abuse

After Miss Johnson listed the aforementioned alcohol addiction and alcohol abuse statistics and facts, it was obvious that what Miss Johnson taught Dante was a real surprise to him. Why? Because for the first time in his young life, someone not only made the effort to articulate the long term and the short term effects of alcohol abuse and alcoholism, but she also made the effort to verify what she was saying with alcoholism and alcohol abuse facts and statistics that related to everyone, and mainly to teens.

Without a doubt, it was almost as if a light went on and Dante instantaneously understood why he should not be engaging in abusive and hazardous drinking with or without his buddies any longer. Dante thanked Miss Johnson for her concern and for the information she presented.

Miss Johnson then asked Dante how he felt about getting a physical examination and an alcohol evaluation for the alcohol abuse or alcohol addiction treatment he would probably need.

Dante thought about this for a minute and then agreed to get a comprehensive physical examination and to go through an extensive appraisal of his drinking circumstances so that he could start an alcohol abuse or alcohol dependency rehab program right away.
